چکیده
mal position. On examination, the patient had blepharitis and corneal haze in both eyes (Figure 3). Ophthalmic examination showed no light perception in the right eye and a visual acuity of 20/200 in the left eye. Slitlamp examination showed palpebral conjunctival hyperemia with papillary hypertrophy and tears in the Descemet membrane in both eyes (Figure 4). Funduscopic examination showed bilateral optic atrophy, more marked in the right eye. The optic disc was uniformly white without cupping in both eyes. The remainder of the results of fundus examination and the intraocular pressure were normal. The patient’s poor vision did not permit visual fields to be obtained. Ultrasound scan, Hertel measurements, and thyroid function test results showed no abnormalities. Electrophysiologic testing showed substantial reduction of the latent time of the visual evoked responses. Results of further neurologic examination, including magnetic resonance imaging, for demyelinating disease, drug toxic effects, and thyroid eye disease were negative. The patient was instructed to avoid luxating his globes, as he refused surgical treatment of the floppy eyelids. Stabilization of his psychiatric disease allowed the patient to be cooperative. Unfortunately, 4 months later he was totally blind. His parents reported that he had never stopped luxating his globes.

متن کاملSpatio-temporal patterns of owl territories in fragmented forests are affected by a top predator (Ural owl)
Competitive intraguild interactions can modify the spatial and temporal territory use of predators, e.g., this phenomenon was reported among species of owls (Strigidae). This study made use of owl guild present in fragmented forests in southern Poland to investigate how the occurrence of the dominant Ural owl affects the territory distribution of subordinate (in descending order): tawny owl, bo...
متن کاملTawny owl (Strix aluco) and Hume's Tawny owl (Strix butleri) are distinct species: evidence from nucleotide sequences of the cytochrome b gene.
The cytochrome b gene of the Tawny Owl (Strix aluco), Hume's Tawny Owl (Strix butleri) and the African wood owl (Strix woodfordii) was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and partially sequenced (300 base pairs). Sequences differ substantially (9 to 12% nucleotide substitutions) between these taxa indicating that they represent distinct species, which is also implicated from morphologi...
متن کاملThe Semantic Web takes Wing: Programming Ontologies with Tawny-OWL
The Tawny-OWL library provides a fully-programmatic environment for ontology building; it enables the use of a rich set of tools for ontology development by recasting development as a form of programming. It is built in Clojure – a modern Lisp dialect, and is backed by the OWL API. Used simply, it has a similar syntax to OWL Manchester syntax, but it provides arbitrary extensibility and abstrac...
متن کاملThe influence of Pleistocene glacial refugia on tawny owl genetic diversity and phylogeography in western Europe.
The glacial refugia hypothesis indicates that during the height of the Pleistocene glaciations the temperate species that are today widespread in western Europe must have survived in small and climatically favourable areas located in the southern peninsulas of Iberia, Italy and Balkans. One such species is the tawny owl, a relatively sedentary, nonmigratory bird presently distributed throughout...
